Global Home Improvements Encourage Startups by Supporting Enterprise Hub
As a successful long established business, Global Home Improvements felt it was appropriate to support some smaller businesses as they start out on their journey.
The Mill, Drogheda’s Enterprise Hub was created to provide affordable office space for start-ups. We were happy to support their efforts during the phase two expansion with a cash donation. The Hub is a place for a community of like-minded entrepreneurs and innovators who will create new products and services for Irish and international customers. The businesses within the Hub are also able to access training, mentoring and networking opportunities helping them to grow and create even more jobs.
To further increase the impact of this project they will work with schools and colleges to encourage young innovators. They also assist young unemployed people to explore self-employment as an option and work within the community to foster greater social enterprise.
Private sector funding has proven to be vital to Phase 2 of the project with over €350,000 coming from private donations and local companies like ourselves. Global Home Improvements were impressed by the level of positive results that a venture such as The Mill could achieve and that is why we are delighted to be able to support this endeavour. Phase two was officially opened earlier this year and is now staking its claim as one of the leading innovation and technology centres in Ireland. The extension of The Mill is a positive declaration of Drogheda's commercial flair and of the serious intention to develop entrepreneurship within the region.
At the opening Minister Pat Breen commended The Mills services and activity to date “The facilities here are exemplary, and the fact that it’s almost fully occupied is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit in the region. A vibrant small businesses sector is vital to successful economic sustainability, and I can see that The Mill is successfully addressing the practical, training, and mentoring needs of its "Millers” ".
Already home to over twenty businesses, The Mill provides a base for seventy full-time employees from sole traders to small FDIs establishing EU bases. We also saw an opportunity to link up with many of the companies in the The Mill in relation to technology. As an innovative and progressive company we have a lot of technology needs over the coming years and we saw this as a perfect opportunity to talk with these companies and also to support enterprise.
